Leader of the City Council since 2014 and Executive Councillor for Strategy and External Partnerships, and a Labour Councillor since 2004.
Chair of the Fast Growth Cities group (Norwich, Cambridge, Peterborough M Keynes, Oxford and Swindon), Local Government Association representative on the Labour Party Planning Commission, and Past Chair of the Greater Cambridge Partnership Board.
Also Director of Planning Skills at Essex Place Services, having organised round 300 planning training events for planners and Councillors since 2003. Recently Module Tutor Housing and Planning on the Anglia Ruskin Town Planning MSc, and previously a local government manager and then consultant for 25 years, focusing on waste planning, recycling, waste reduction and environmental protection.
