Following an academic career specialising in human resources, international business and industrial relations, Paul was elected to Salford City Council in 2011. In 2016 he was elected as the City’s Mayor.
He is driving Salford’s continuing transformation with the only specialised media cluster outside London at the heart of inclusive social and economic growth. Paul has a long history of campaigning on social issues emphasising equality, financial inclusion, living wages, social value and the importance of housing and jobs for all.
In May 2017 Paul was appointed Greater Manchester Combined Authority Portfolio Lead for Housing, Planning, Homelessness and Infrastructure and is currently overseeing Greater Manchester’s forthcoming Housing Strategy, Infrastructure Strategy and Plan for Homes, Jobs & the Environment (the revised draft Greater Manchester Spatial Framework).
