Councillor John D Rigg FRICS, Deputy Lead for Sustainable Transport, Transformation, Regeneration and Economic Development, Guildford Borough Council
Guildford Borough Council
Deputy Lead for Sustainable Transport, Transformation, Regeneration and Economic Development
John D Rigg FRICS is a chartered surveyor recently retired from Savills plc where he was Head of Central London and International Investment. He is a long term advocate of master planning to address social and built environment issues and is also a supporter of brownfield first approach and sustainable development.
In 2011 John set up a local pro growth resident group called Guildford Vision Group enlisting the support of local architects, surveyors and planners to advocate masterplanning the town centre to identify much needed infrastructure housing and public realm solutions . This revealed the potential for far more housing than identified in the draft local plan and therefore less need to develop on greenbelt . In 2019 John with others set up the political party Residents for Guildford and Villages (R4GV) to seek good positive planning for town and country. The party stood 17 candidates of which 15 were elected causing one of the biggest electoral shocks in the May 2019 elections. Councillor Rigg is now Deputy Lead for Transformation and Regeneration and Economic Development at Guildford Council .
